A beautiful beach and clean sea, can a guy (or a girl) ask for more? Yeah you can, but sometimes this is all you need to charge once more your batteries. Split is a very lucky city when it comes to beaches, very few large towns in this parts of the world can boast with numerous and nice beaches such as Split can.

First and foremost, when you mention the word ‘beach’ in Split, Bačvice beach comes to mind. Split’s most famous beach is essentially a large sandy bay which is so famous that it even has a famous pop song written in its honour. It’s located just 12 minutes on foot from Diocletian’s palace. The Blue flag that is flowing on it, indicates that the sea is clean and the beach is eco-friendly. You can rent parasols and deck chairs there, or just sit in some of the many beach bars and enjoy a cold beer with a nice view. While there, don’t miss the opportunity to try the local sport of Picigin, which is played with a peeled off tennis ball, just watch the locals and you’ll get the hang of it quickly. Bačvice beach is the birthplace of this strange, but very addictive sport.

Many locals and foreigners agree that Kašjuni beach is the best beach in Split (TripAdvisor confirms that too). This beach is a pebbled one, on Marjan hill, so a bit further from the city centre. The beach area has two bars, with sun lounge seating, paid public showers and changing areas. There is free parking, and the number 12 bus from Riva is on this route. If you have a dog there is a separate dog beach here also, and even a nudist beach around the corner.

While we are still on Marjan hill, let me mention another nice beach. It’s called Bene beach and is located in the dense forest of this big park/forest overlooking the city. Named after a church of St. Bernard’s, which remains are still there, it’s a nice beach for families especially, with a lot of activities for the younger generations located just near the beach. You can take a walk From Kašjuni beach to Bene beach, it will take you around 30 minutes, and in those 30 minutes, you will pass a lot of smaller and secluded beaches, which some people also love, so take advantage of that also!

Žnjan beach is the biggest beach in Split, located on the eastern outskirts of the city, it is easily accessible with car or public transportation. The shade is an issue on this beach, so if you have a parasol of your own, bring it with you (at some parts of the beach you can rent one, but not at all places). There is even a store very near to the beach, so if you want to bring your own beers (and not pay a fortune for them in the beach bars), that is easily done on this beach.

As the last (but not least) beach on this list I left Ovčice beach. This is good beach for adults not wanting to hear loud music all the time and plenty of chairs available for rent also. The beach is popular with families with small children, due to the all the natural shade available on this beach.

So, these are only some of the beaches in Split, there are many more, when you are in the city harbour, you either go east or west, both directions will take you to a nice beach. But do beware , some of these beaches are super popular during the summer, so early in the morning or late in the afternoon would be the best options.
